This tip comes from holistic skincare specialist Collette Yeomans from Clairté Wellness in Vancouver. It feels like one of the most luxurious ways to cleanse the face and is exceptional for dry, irritated, and inflamed skin. I like to use a thick, creamy yogurt (brand and style suggestions below). Simply scoop out about a 1/4 teaspoon straight from the fridge into a small saucer or pinch bowl, and apply a thick layer to dry skin. Let it sit for a moment, (often I do a light massaging for a minute) and then rinse off with a soft washcloth and lukewarm water. Skin is left feeling cool, soft, and ready for a spritz of rosewater and a gentle face cream. I do this a couple of times a week.
Yeomans explains why yogurt is a beneficial cleanser; “Cleansing with yogurt is a great way to replenish the skin, as its full of probiotics to balance and calm the skin as well as lactic acid to resurface and increase lipids in the skin.”
Remember to always use the best quality yogurt available to you, with the fewest ingredients (such as milk, cream and bacterial culture). Be sure there are no thickeners like gelatine or additives like sugar and sweeteners, and make sure it’s plain.
The thickest, creamiest styles feel the most luxe, so look for “Greek Style” or “Mediterranean” on the label.
We recommend: Olympic Krema Organic, Liberté Méditerranée, or Astro Balkan style.
