It always really irks us when supermodels and celebrities say their best beauty advice is to “be confident!” Of course that’s your advice, we think, "you’re a model". The rest of us have a few other things to think about than going around believing in ourselves all the time.
And what does it mean exactly? To be assertive, to be bold, to walk around with your head up and shoulders back? There’s nothing wrong with that, but something feels weird about confidence as beauty advice. It’s kind of ambiguous and silly, like saying, “Oh just be pretty."
Confidence as a beauty thing bores us. It’s like having a new iPad but you can only open one app. There are countless human emotions, feelings, histories, and experiences, and to blanket beauty under one just seems silly. Doesn’t it take a long time to get to know yourself? The vulnerability and shakiness of being human is beautiful in it’s own way.
Everything that is – as it is – has beauty. Noticing it is the best beauty advice.
